Hazards

What happens when.........

Our world is full of hazards, the things that can harm, but what happens when we dont identify them? Well in our private world it may result in injury, illness, financial loss, damage or loss of property and life, to name a few. In our work world, the same outcomes can result but it can impact so many more people.

So how do we identify the things that have the potential to cause harm? I like a framework of Look, Listen, Learn.

Look - At the physical environment, with curiosity and fresh perspective. For the what if's. At the past and future plans. Data, or lack of. At how the work is done, or should be. For innovation and improvement.

Listen - At what people are telling you, or trying to. To the noise, or lack of. To the data, or the gaps in what you need to hear. To the type of either constructive or destructive language. Solution or problem focused conversations.

Learn - Appreciate and strengthen what works. Analysis failures (what, how, why and improvements required). From others (people and businesses). Is there a growth mindset to improve.

All of these considerations allow us to consider the ways harm can enter our lives in a way we dont want it to. From there we can assess them and determine control measures to prevent or control them.
